Library

In December 2021 Stirling Council applied for Planning permission to change the use of one of the units within the shopping centre in Johnston Avenue to a Library.

At that time the unit had been empty. The report of the Planning authority included the following remark: –

The proposal will bring the currently unused shop back into a community use that will serve the local community. It will contribute to the footfall within the network centre, and support the overall vitality and viability of the centre.

It was that initiative and the enthusiasm of the resident Librarian that was the catalyst for the existence of the History Group and much more that the Library can offer.

Cornton Library

The word “Library” is defined as “A place set apart containing books for reading, study or reference” (OED third edition 1983)

That definition is worthy of being reconsidered in the light of what Cornton Library has become in the few short years since its inception.

Library – “A place or hub where everyone can feel welcome and contribute to the Community.”

Among the opportunities that exist here are: –

Bookbug – Fortnightly sessions for 0-5 year olds Friday 2:15pm – 3:15pm

Adult Book Group – Monthly Thursday 6:00pm – 7:00pm

Local History Group – Last Thursday of the month 11:30am – 1:00pm

Young Writers’ Group – Monthly Friday 3:45pm – 4:45pm

Children’s Ukulele Group – Thursdays 6:15pm – 6:45pm

Pokemon Swap sessions – Saturday 10:00am – 1:00pm.

The Library also is in close contact with the Local Community Council, has a deep symbiotic relationship with the local Primary School and often organises talks in the library on specific subjects of varying interest.
