Cabinet Maker’s Factory

Archibald Forrest, who served as Provost of the Burgh of Stirling from 1897 to 1900 owned property in Bridgehaugh from which he operated a Cabinet Maker’s business until some time between 1897 and 1903. According to the Stirling Journal of 16th May 1911 “… female labour was mostly employed…” in the manufacture. The property lay between 3 Bridgehaugh and Forth Mill.

At some point in time between these dates the property ceased trading as a Cabinet Maker and was leased to a Confectionery Business. The first record of the Confectionery Business at that address was in 1903 and the last record of the cabinet Maker was in 1897.

It is tempting to speculate that Archibald Forrest finished his working life as a Cabinet Maker in 1897 to take up and concentrate upon his post as Provost.
