Castle Vale was built in 1975 to house employees of Corntonvale Prison. It was built directly on top of the area which was previously occupied by the original Cornton Vale farm steading and Borstal.

The development consisted of 10 blocks of 2 storey flats each having four dwellings along with a communal recreational facility or Social Club for the staff.

Latterly, we are told, the Social Club became a hairdressing Salon where the inmates of the prison were coached in the profession and many locals took advantage of the facility.
Subsequently the building was in use as a “Family Centre Help Hub”
Currently the building is owned, and is being upgraded for their purpose, by a National Charity.
